This is Fantasy Phineball from Feeling Phine. The last letter in this series can be found here. For anyone new (WELCOME!) the Introduction to this series is here. x
BIG NEWS THIS WEEK, FRIENDS. BIG NEWS.
I admittedly didn’t watch the games this past weekend, save for a few live clips of the Buffalo Bills game on Monday night. That being said, big things STILL happened in the world of Fantasy this week.
First thing’s first: after three consecutive losses, Team Phine has finally had a taste of victory! We won our matchup this week, bumping us up from 7th place in the League to 5th place. We’re 3-3 (3 wins, 3 losses) and are all balanced out in the spirit of Libra season. (The zodiac symbol for Libra is a set of scales. This is my first and only mention of astrology in tonight’s newsletter. Or… is it?)
Second newsworthy update: as indicated above, Team Phine has had a REBRAND. Our team has shed its previous title of “It’s Brady B*tch.” Moving forward we will be known as “MéNajee Trois.”
My feelings towards Mr. Brady have not changed - make no mistake, I still ride for my man. However I have decided it was time to showcase some love for my other guys, starting with Mr. Najee Harris.
From Week 2 onwards Harris has consistently exceeded his point projection every game. This is his rookie season in the NFL; he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers just this year. He’s solid, he’s reliable, he’s handsome, and he’s a Pisces. (I’m not sorry.) I’d also be remiss if I didn’t point out that his name is extremely punny.
Now it’s time to give credit where it is due: my friend Max came up with this excellent team name. I’m grateful for this genius stroke as MéNajee Trois embodies the essence of Team Phine, from our rookie spirit to our convivial, somewhat h*rny European vibe. Thanks Max! And thanks Najee! You’re a shining star!
I legitimately have a crush on him. (Najee, not Max. Sorry Max.) He’s an incredible athlete and a charming gentleman. If you need some eye candy to brighten your day, look no further; here’s his post-game interview from Sunday:
In less cheerful news, I think Xiang is tiring of his role as my football mentor. For anyone relatively new to the newsletter, Xiang is my salsa dancing, NFL loving, engineer friend from college. He coached me on all things Fantasy and football prior to my draft, and since then has been a wonderful resource on “the game.”
Over the weekend he was chiding me on my team strategy (or lack thereof). Naturally, I defended myself:
I think this is what they call “tough love” but bro, if I wanted an Asian man to be disappointed in me, I could just call my dad.
Ooooonly joking. Actually Xiang’s negging encouraged me to step it up and research my players more in order to improve my line-up… which may or may not have contributed to my victory.
+1 for smack talk, you win this time.
That’s it for Fantasy Week 6! This upcoming week should be more intense as it’s a “Bye” week for many teams, meaning a lot of us will be scrambling with our rosters as a result. For those who aren’t Fantasy fiends, a “Bye” week indicates the team doesn’t have a game scheduled and gets a break. I’m guessing the purpose is rest… but I’ll do more research and shall enlighten myself, and you, my loyal reader, next week!
x Joséphine
Thank you, Josephine for another great one!
The tough love comment made me el oh el.
